Glossary
A truck or other vehicle designed for the fire service. This includes
pumpers, ladders, rescue trucks, light wagons, utility trucks and trailers,
hose vehicles, brush trucks and the like.
A new piece of apparatus is placed into service. Due to the rarity of the
event and the great effort that goes into preparing specifications,
obtaining approval and funding there is usually great fanfare. The fanfare
could include a parade, barbecue, carnival, speeches, competitions, and
other activities. The housing ends with the proud fire company of the
new apparatus pushing the truck into the fire station by means of sheer
manpower.
